  5. This is the main window for xwais, the X interface to a Wide Area
  6. Information Server.  Using xwais, you can quickly obtain information from
  7. the sources provided by your server.
  8.  
  9. There are three parts to this X WAIStation window: Questions, Sources, and
  10. Status.
  11.  
  12. "Questions" lists the files in which you have saved questions from previous
  13. sessions.  If this is the first time you are using xwais, the Questions
  14. list is empty.
  15.  
  16. "Sources" lists the sources available to you.
  17.  
  18. "Status" displays messages from xwais.
  19.  
  20. Asking a Question
  21.  
  22. To ask a new question, click on the New button beneath the Questions
  23. list.  A Question window appears; click on the Help button in this window
  24. to find out how to ask the question.

  26. To ask a question from your Questions list, click on its name to highlight
  27. it, then click on the Open button.  A window appears showing the question.
  28. You might want to save a question and re-ask it if your sources are
  29. periodically updated, and you want to see if there is new information
  30. available.

  33. Editing and Adding Sources
  34.  
  35. In general, you will not need to do much with sources.  If you do wish to
  36. edit or create new sources, see the WAIStation Users's Guide to learn the
  37. meaning of the slots in the Source Edit window.

  39. To add a new source, click on the New button beneath the Sources list.  A
  40. Source window appears.  Fill in the Name field with the name of the source
  41. (ending in .src) that will become the name of the source for further
  42. questions.  Fill in the rest of the information according to the
  43. description in the WAIStation User's Guide.

  45. To modify a source from your Source list, click on its name to highlight
  46. it, then click on the Open button.  A window appears showing the source.
  47. Change the apropriate information according to the description in the
  48. WAIStation User's Guide.

  51. Leaving xwais
  52.  
  53. To leave xwais, click twice on the Quit button beneath the Questions list.
  54. (This only closes the XWAIStation window.  If you have question windows
  55. open, you must close them separately.)
